Now in its fifth year, the Cockatoo May-Fair has made good progress and experienced rapid growth since its humble beginnings.

Several fundamental ideas and concepts underpin the idea of this event:

·        That festivals are an important community celebration which build pride, and are a draw card for bringing the community together

·        That festivals provide opportunities for individuals to become involved in their local community, and that this sense of belonging is important

·        That quality family entertainment is difficult to find in the hills, and is also difficult to access due to physical distance and lack of infrastructure such as public transport

·        That we have a wide range of assets and talents within the community which need to be showcased in this event, to create pride from within the community

·        That festivals are a means of bringing visitors and tourism not just to Cockatoo but the surrounding communities as well.

This event is completely volunteer run. We have a small committee of just four, but the total number of volunteers involved is numerous with many volunteers from many local clubs and groups dedicating time to become involved.
